Privacy Policy

Effective date: 1 August 2026

Dew is a learning assistant for children, provided by Rainwater Labs ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to Dew on the web and to the Dew Android app available on Google Play, and is written for the parents and guardians who set up and oversee a child's use of Dew.

Your data stays in India

All personal information handled by Dew is stored and processed on servers located in India, and we do not transfer your family's personal data outside India. Your child's conversations are processed within our own India-based systems and are never sent to, shared with, or used to train any external or third-party AI service.

What we collect

We collect only what we need. We do not show advertising, we do not use advertising or tracking identifiers, we do not track children across other apps or websites, and we do not sell personal data. If a child uploads a photo (for example, of a maths problem), it is used only to understand the question and is not stored.

  • Parent/guardian: an email address, to set up and manage the account, obtain consent, and send account and safety messages.
  • Child: a first name, and a grade or age band (we ask about age only to set the right learning level — we do not collect birthdates).
  • Learning conversations: the messages exchanged with Dew, so we can provide history and keep the service safe.
  • Limited technical information needed to run Dew reliably and securely — see “Android app–specific information” below for what this includes on the Google Play version.

Android app–specific information (Google Play)

The Android app collects the same core information as the web app, plus a small amount of device-level information needed to run a mobile app reliably and securely:

App permissions

The app requests only the permissions it needs, each tied to a specific feature:

  • Camera — only if your child chooses to photograph a question (e.g. a maths problem) to send to Dew. Not accessed unless invoked for this purpose.
  • Photos/Storage — only to let your child attach an existing image from the device instead of taking a new photo.
  • Notifications — to send account or safety-related alerts. Optional, and controllable from the device's app settings at any time.
  • Internet/network state — required for the app to function.

We do not request access to contacts, location, microphone, SMS, call logs, or any other device data.

Diagnostics and crash reports

If the app crashes or behaves unexpectedly, we collect basic diagnostic information (device model, Android OS version, app version, and crash logs) to fix the problem. This is technical information about the app's operation, not about the child.

Push notification token

A device-specific token used only to deliver the notifications described above.

No advertising identifiers

We do not collect, use, or allow any third party to collect the Android Advertising ID or any equivalent identifier, since Dew shows no ads and does no ad-related tracking.

Third-party services used in the Android app

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to operate the app, all selected or configured to meet Google Play's Families Policy requirements for apps used by children:

  • Firebase (Google) — for crash reporting, push notifications, and basic app diagnostics. Configured without advertising or cross-app tracking features.
  • Google Sign-In — if a parent chooses to sign in with a Google account, Google processes that authentication under its own privacy policy.

No advertising SDKs, analytics-for-advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs are included in the app.

Google Play Data Safety summary

In line with Google Play's Data Safety requirements, here is a summary of what the Android app collects and why:

All data collected is encrypted in transit, and account deletion (see "Your rights" below) removes the associated data from our systems, subject to the retention limits described in this policy.

How we use information

To provide the learning service and keep conversation history; to keep children safe; to communicate with parents; to operate and troubleshoot the app (web and Android); and to keep Dew reliable and improve it using limited usage information. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use children's conversations to train external or third-party AI systems.

How Dew looks things up

For some general-knowledge questions, Dew may look up public information online. When it does, it sends only a short, privacy-protected topic — never your child's own words or personal details — and screens results to help keep them age-appropriate.

Google Play Families Policy compliance

Because Dew is directed at users of multiple age groups, including children, the app is built to comply with Google Play's Families Policy across the whole app — we have not implemented a neutral age-screen approach that only applies child protections to some users. Specifically:

  • Content: all content reachable within Dew, including learning material, prompts, and lookup results, is built and screened to be appropriate for children, since any part of the app may be seen by a child.
  • Ads: Dew shows no advertising of any kind, to any user, at any time. This means there is no question of ads being inappropriate for children or served from a non-certified network — the requirement is met by not showing ads at all.
  • SDKs, APIs, and legal compliance: every SDK and API used in the app (see “Third-party services used in the Android app” above) is reviewed for suitability in a child-directed app, and none perform advertising or cross-app tracking.

We also design Dew to meet the substance of the children's privacy laws that Google Play's Families Policy points to, including:

  • COPPA (US): we do not collect more personal information from children than is reasonably necessary, we obtain verifiable parental consent before a child's account is created, we do not use children's information for behavioral advertising, and a parent can review, export, or delete their child's information at any time.
  • GDPR (EU), including provisions on children's data: we rely on parental consent as our legal basis for processing a child's personal data, we collect the minimum data needed for the service, and parents can exercise access, rectification, erasure, and portability rights at any time through Settings or by contacting us.

We review our SDKs, ad policy, and content periodically to maintain this compliance as the app evolves.

Security

Your family's data is protected by appropriate measures, including access restricted on a need-to-know basis, encryption of data in transit, secure India-based storage, and logging of administrative access.

How long we keep data

We keep each type of information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy and as required by law, after which it is deleted. Consent records may be kept longer where the law requires, as proof of compliance. You can delete your data sooner from Settings, on the web or in the Android app.

Children's privacy

Dew is built for children, with a parent or guardian in control. We handle children's information with special care and in line with applicable Indian law and Google Play's Families Policy. A parent or guardian provides consent and can withdraw it at any time.

Your rights

You may access, export, correct, or delete your data, and withdraw consent, at any time from Settings (web or Android app) or by contacting us. We will respond in line with applicable law.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it was last updated; where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, including within the Android app if the change affects it specifically.
