Effective date: 1 August 2026
Dew is a learning assistant for children, provided by Rainwater Labs ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what information we handle, how we use it, and the choices available to you. It applies to Dew on the web and to the Dew Android app available on Google Play, and is written for the parents and guardians who set up and oversee a child's use of Dew.
All personal information handled by Dew is stored and processed on servers located in India, and we do not transfer your family's personal data outside India. Your child's conversations are processed within our own India-based systems and are never sent to, shared with, or used to train any external or third-party AI service.
We collect only what we need. We do not show advertising, we do not use advertising or tracking identifiers, we do not track children across other apps or websites, and we do not sell personal data. If a child uploads a photo (for example, of a maths problem), it is used only to understand the question and is not stored.
The Android app collects the same core information as the web app, plus a small amount of device-level information needed to run a mobile app reliably and securely:
The app requests only the permissions it needs, each tied to a specific feature:
We do not request access to contacts, location, microphone, SMS, call logs, or any other device data.
If the app crashes or behaves unexpectedly, we collect basic diagnostic information (device model, Android OS version, app version, and crash logs) to fix the problem. This is technical information about the app's operation, not about the child.
A device-specific token used only to deliver the notifications described above.
We do not collect, use, or allow any third party to collect the Android Advertising ID or any equivalent identifier, since Dew shows no ads and does no ad-related tracking.
We use a small number of infrastructure providers to operate the app, all selected or configured to meet Google Play's Families Policy requirements for apps used by children:
No advertising SDKs, analytics-for-advertising SDKs, or third-party tracking SDKs are included in the app.
In line with Google Play's Data Safety requirements, here is a summary of what the Android app collects and why:
| Data type | Collected? | Purpose | Shared with third parties? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name (child's first name, parent email) | Yes | Account functionality, parental consent | No |
| App activity (messages, in-app actions) | Yes | Core functionality, safety | No |
| Photos (only if child attaches one) | Temporarily, not stored | App functionality | No |
| Device or other IDs | Push token only | Notifications | No |
| Crash logs / diagnostics | Yes | App reliability | Processed by Firebase, not sold or shared further |
| Advertising ID | No | — | — |
| Location | No | — | — |
| Financial info | No | — | — |
All data collected is encrypted in transit, and account deletion (see "Your rights" below) removes the associated data from our systems, subject to the retention limits described in this policy.
To provide the learning service and keep conversation history; to keep children safe; to communicate with parents; to operate and troubleshoot the app (web and Android); and to keep Dew reliable and improve it using limited usage information. We do not sell personal data, and we do not use children's conversations to train external or third-party AI systems.
For some general-knowledge questions, Dew may look up public information online. When it does, it sends only a short, privacy-protected topic — never your child's own words or personal details — and screens results to help keep them age-appropriate.
A parent or guardian (18+) sets up the account and provides consent for their child to use Dew, on both the web and the Android app. We confirm the parent's email address when the account is created. Consent is given per child and can be withdrawn at any time. From Settings — in the app or on the web — you can access, export, correct, and delete your data at any time. Deleting your account through either platform deletes the same underlying data, since both apps share one account system.
Because Dew is directed at users of multiple age groups, including children, the app is built to comply with Google Play's Families Policy across the whole app — we have not implemented a neutral age-screen approach that only applies child protections to some users. Specifically:
We also design Dew to meet the substance of the children's privacy laws that Google Play's Families Policy points to, including:
We review our SDKs, ad policy, and content periodically to maintain this compliance as the app evolves.
Your family's data is protected by appropriate measures, including access restricted on a need-to-know basis, encryption of data in transit, secure India-based storage, and logging of administrative access.
We keep each type of information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy and as required by law, after which it is deleted. Consent records may be kept longer where the law requires, as proof of compliance. You can delete your data sooner from Settings, on the web or in the Android app.
Dew is built for children, with a parent or guardian in control. We handle children's information with special care and in line with applicable Indian law and Google Play's Families Policy. A parent or guardian provides consent and can withdraw it at any time.
You may access, export, correct, or delete your data, and withdraw consent, at any time from Settings (web or Android app) or by contacting us. We will respond in line with applicable law.
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows when it was last updated; where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, including within the Android app if the change affects it specifically.
